WaterFirst
The WaterFirst Community Program was launched in 2002 in an effort to recognize and reward cities and counties across the state who volunteer to go above and beyond the requirements of the law when it comes to the management and protection of our shared water resources.
In October of 2006, the City of Winder submitted our application for the WaterFirst Community Program. On January 10, 2007, we were selected as WaterFirst Class of 2007 participants from a very impressive field of applicants.
On May 4th, 2010, the City of Winder was designated as the 19th WaterFirst Community in Georgia out of approximately 700 municipalities across the state.
The City demonstrated a commitment to water stewardship by achieving excellence in eight major components of the WaterFirst Program:
- Watershed Assessment
- Stormwater Master Planning
- Wastewater Treatment and Management
- Water Supply Planning
- Water Supply Protection
- Water Conservation
- Water Reclamation and Reuse
- Residual Biosolids
The City of Winder Water Department is offering Indoor and/or Outdoor Home Water Conservation Kits to the Community at no charge. The kits are available from the Water Department at 138 Sweetwater Trail in Winder. Any questions or comments may be directed to Roger Wilhelm or Tabatha Knight or by phone to 770-867-7978.
