What is the H.E.A.T. Program?

Heating Energy Assistance Team, or H.E.A.T., is a Georgia-based nonprofit organization that provides energy assistance to thousands of Georgia's most vulnerable citizens each year.

Launched in 1983, H.E.A.T. is the oldest, statewide fuel fund in Georgia. All money donated to H.E.A.T. is distributed by the Georgia Department of Human Resources and is completely tax deductible. H.E.A.T. provides energy assistance to qualified households regardless of the energy used: natural gas, propane, electricity, oil, wood, coal or other.

Who does the H.E.A.T. Program help?

The need for energy assistance is a year-round issue. During the winter, most of us enjoy the comfort of a warm, cozy home. But thousands of Georgians, including hundreds right here in Winder and Barrow County, often have to choose between staying warm, buying food or paying for prescription medications. As a result, many suffer from the cold because they are unable to pay their heating bills.

Recipients of these funds could be an elderly couple trying to get by on a fixed income, a single parent with small children or a family whose primary breadwinner has lost their jobs. H.E.A.T. may have helped assist someone that you know, work with, go to church with or someone in your very own neighborhood.

The need right here in our area is overwhelming.
