Physical Abilities Test
All applicants must successfully pass a physical abilities test (PAT) prior to being hired by the Winder Police Department. In addition, all sworn police officers who are employed by the Winder Police Department must continue to pass the same PAT on an annual basis as a condition of their continued employment. This PAT was implemented at the Winder Police Department beginning in 2012.
The PAT is very specific to the job duties of a police officer. It consists of a series of running/jogging for a distance of 220 yards, negotiating a series of obstacles that represent climbing over a fence, stepping over or around other obstacles, low crawling for a short distance, dragging a 150-pound dummy for a distance of 100 feet and dry-firing an unloaded police issued handgun while fatigued.
The maximum time allowed to complete this fitness course is six minutes and four seconds.
