History of the Park's Creation

The City of Winder wanted to honor the men and women of this area, past and present, who have served this nation in the armed forces.  Veterans and their families have made great sacrifices which should long be remembered by all. In 2003, Mayor Buddy Ouzts, members of the Winder City Council and the Veterans Commemorative Park Committee came together and initiated this project to provide Winder with a permanent location to recognize and pay tribute to the Veterans who have served and continue to serve our great nation. The Park was dedicated on November 11, 2003. Today, the Park serves as a valuable reminder to our children and future generations of those who sacrificed for our freedom, country and way of life. The majority of the Park's development costs came from the selling of over 900 memorial bricks to Veterans and their families. The park is located at 113 East Athens Street, Winder, GA 30680.
