The Winder Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy (CPA) is designed to give an opportunity for the community and business members to become informed and educated about the many facets of police work. The Academy is designed to give the attendees exposure as to why police respond to various situations in a particular way and how they ultimately handle those situations. The ultimate goal of the CPA is to develop relationships between law enforcement, communities and businesses. We hope to create an alliance that leaves us with voices in the community to act as ambassadors to build solid partnerships, creating a better quality of life for those we serve.
The CPA is open to all Barrow County residents, 18 years of age or older, who successfully pass the application process and a driver’s and criminal history check.
The CPA consists of 10 weeks of both classroom and practical application and will be scenario based classes with a mock trial at the end of the session. This will give class members the opportunity to see how cases are worked from beginning to end.

• 911 & Patrol Operations
• Crime Scene Processing
• Traffic Stops
• Interviews & Interrogations
• Gun Range
The deadline to submit applications is April 10th. The applications are considered in the order they are received. If you are selected to participate, you will receive a letter from the Crime Prevention Division sent to the address listed on your application.
