The Barrow County Health Department is part of the Georgia Division of Public Health and serves all of Barrow County, including residents of the City of Winder. By virtue of the office, the Mayor of the City of Winder is a member of the local Board of Health, along with one additional board member appointed by the City. Our current appointee is Charlotte Stringfellow.

The Health Department offers numerous health-related programs. These programs are generally described at the Georgia Division of Public Health website (http://www.ph.dhr.state.ga.us/programs/). The Department also provides certain regulatory functions within the City, including issuing food service permits, restaurant inspections, handling reports of unsanitary conditions and approval of septic tank systems.
